Corona – Lessons for corporates

Categories Opinion

It’s too early to think of ways in which corona will impact businesses and corporate culture. But it is never too early. If you are just waiting for it to pass so you can revert to old ways, you are doing it wrong. This is the time when you rethink everything. Is what you did sustainable? Are there better ways to do what you did?

1. Can you do without taking that flight? People who boast of being too busyy, taking too many flights and advertising their hectic schedules need to stop. Be sensible.

2. Work from home is the new norm. But it is forced. I had a manager once who wanted me to physically report to him at 9.30am and 5pm. The org supported that practice. That work culture needs to change. Trust more.

3. How do you measure efficiency? There are people who calm nerves and those who spread panic through the ranks. Attitude and impact on sentiment should become a way to measure one’s contribution. Measure personalities.

4. Does your business goal involve communitites? What are you building? For who? Greater good is not just for NGOs, applies to corporates too. Pivot for good.

5. Does your org/leader have empathy? How did your org/leader manage last few weeks? How were you treated? Leaders need to feel more, emloyees need to punish orgs that don’t value sentiment.
