Tenali Junction, Green Park, Delhi

Categories Delhi, Food

I have done cafe and lounge bashing for years. Came out as this angry bitter person who had nothing good say.

Found a place I can say good things about. After Thomas Fenn and Zachariah Jacob, Sharmistha Mukherjee-Cheema has decided to feed the north Indians some good food. This time from Andhra.

First, it is a bold decision to open such a restaurant in that dying Green Park market. But I was surprised to see that the market has transformed with wide footpath and benches and overall beautification.

Second, it was risky to have a thali menu in a place where the rents must be high. But on a weekday they were full. So, seems to have worked.

Third, perfect timing. Last time I was in Andhra Bhawan was some 3 years back. The city needed more than a canteen. And, the east coast has been ignored for long.

Fourth, if a chef in a South Indian restaurant can’t speak Hindi, eat there.

Fifth, if you know the owner, you can share the puris and get a complementary smoke.

Sixth, we ate all we could. Bill was not even a decent number. Tanu paid. So free for me. So, you can feed people cheap and still sustain yourself in South Delhi. That’s a mythbuster right there.

Finally, a tip. Go on a weekday night.

Finally another tip. Prawn iguru and mutton fry are must haves.
