What could have helped us in these times – scientific temper and empathy.
The IITs and AIIMs and the moon chasing were proof of our pursuit of scientific temper. We have tried to tear that to shreds in last 6 years. Most of the people can’t differentiate between science and mythology anymore.
Socialist. That word was put in the preamble as a proof of our institutionalised empathy. A duty towards the poorest. Govt has moved to remove that from the constitution.
So even if the virus targets the rich and the mighty, once again, the poorest are the hardest hit. If your heart does not bleed while looking at those wage labourers walking hundreds of kilometres, we have lost as a species.
Scientific temper. Empathy. We have lost the two guiding principles of our nation.
