godmothers of delhi streets

I have written about Raju naan wale dwarka in another post but this one is about the owner. Sometime back, there was much talk about this lady who sold chole kulche from a streetside cart in Gurgoan. Her family had fallen on bad times and they owned SUVs and so the story went. But here is the godmother version of the story. This kulche stall has such a huge rush during all hours. I was there on a lean day and probably that’s how I…Continue Reading “The godmothers of Delhi streets: Dwarka”

Most of the dishes are priced at less than less than 200 bucks and his portions are generous. A four piece mutton yakhni is just hundred rupees, you can’t miss this place. reh kashmiri food dwarka

Reh. As the owner explained means spark or embers. Chingari in Hindi. The place is so small and hidden that without Zomato I would have never been able to find it. So, if you are a Zomato hater, you are just a mean angry person. Anyway, there was just one Kashmiri man at the counter and he had a chicken curry, rajma and yakhni. We ordered a rajma and a yakhni. Both came with half plates of rice that could feed three children. The rajma…Continue Reading “Reh – Kashmiri food in Dwarka”

crazy forks dwarka

I have a confession to make. I am biased in favour of small places. I love big restaurants and hotels etc too but it’s the small ones that genuinely surprise and stump me. I guess most of is cheer for underdogs anyway, so I am the only one here. Anyway, couple of days back I was looking for sushis in Dwarka. Could not find them. Supposedly, there is this famous momo uncle in sector 10, could not find him. So, I looked for dumplings and…Continue Reading “Crazy Forks, Dwarka”

bihari food delhi

Convenience. We should avoid that evil as much as we can. So, here I am, giving it up. Those who follow the blog would know that I have said not very flattering things about food from the state of Bihar. So, if one fine evening, I just say good things about the food, you may dig up an old post or tweet and see this guy has no consistency in opinion, he is just like the other sellouts. Anyway, a Bihari food specialty opened in…Continue Reading “Bhoj Puria, Dwarka Sector 22”

food truck dwarka

This one just came out of nowhere in Dwarka. There are no trucks nearby, it is not even close to a food lane. I had my eyes on them for a while and finally gave in last night. There for an in-between meal, we ordered only a chicken schezwan noodles and a veg maggi. The noodles were thin, there was a generous amount of chicken, and came with a side serving of sauce. The maggi had none of the tomato and dhania. It had garlic,…Continue Reading “Let’s Fork Food Truck, Dwarka”

evergreen dwarka delhi

The only Evergreen I knew was in GK. And, I had been there once in half a lifetime. Parking was always an issue and I avoided the place. My only recurring brush with the outlet were the sweets that someone or the other brought over. The kaju katlis were supposedly too good. I didn’t find them extraordinary. Anyway, they have a bigger outlet in Dwarka which has ample parking, during the mornings or when it is too sunny for people to come out. So, I…Continue Reading “Evergreen, Dwarka”

weekly market dwarka

A girl looks on as a pickle vendor sells his ware at a weekly market in Dwarka. The nature of weekly markets change so much from one area to another. The market surrounded by highrises will have completely different stuff from this one which was closer to a local village. These pickle vendors belong to that narrow category who can traverse both. There are many more that can’t – the cloth sellers, the five rupee cup and glass sellers, 3 for 20 chole bhature walas…Continue Reading “Weekly Market, Dwarka”
